Germany: Third Largest Economy

Germany is the third largest economy in the world and is heading towards becoming the number one. The country as well as the language has been there for a long period and many of the languages in Europe have been evolved out of the Germanic family of languages.
Germany is a comparatively large country in Europe that stretches from the Baltic to the North Sea in the north to the Alps in the South. Some of the major rivers in Europe like the Rhine, Elbe and Danube are flowing through the country. There are many historic places in the country and one can only see the Berlin Wall with awe. The country has been actively involved in the World Wars and suffered a lot from others. The roots of Nazism have been wiped out and this is one of the safest countries in the world to visit for a traveler.

The attractions in Germany are never ending. The great rivers have created a lot of openings for water sports and rafting and the land is exquisite with natural charm. There are many festivals that are unique by every means and a traveler will find Germany to be one of the best in Europe. The country many not have attractions like the Eiffel Tower or Venice, but still it is different in every aspect. This country satisfies all sorts of tourists, as it has plenty to offer. From magnificent aquariums and zoos to the wild beauty of the forests and from the tranquility of great mountains to the thrilling sound of music and activities in the nightclubs, this is the place where one can enjoy in the best possible way.

Germany has many things to offer for a traveler. There is never ending charm in the place. The nightclubs and hotels will provide greater comfort to you. In Germany, only sky is the limit.

Places to visit

There are a number of places in Germany that creates interest in the mind of a traveler. For instance, a historic city like Berlin is so excellent that it has many things to offer. So is the former capital city of West Germany, Bonn, Frankfurt, and Munich. Some of the top attractions in the country include Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria that inspired Walt Disney to create his immortal Sleeping Beauty Castle. The Castle is like a fairy tale, one that was initiated by King Ludwig in 1869 that features Romanesque, Byzantine and Gothic styles and has spectacular woo dcarvings and murals. The 45-metre waterfall from the nearby Mary’s bridge that can be best viewed from the Castle is another great attraction.

Oktoberfest is one of the biggest festivals in Germany and the five-day celebration will be one of the greatest events one can see in the country. The lively event is in the first week of October. The stunning 220-mile journey from River Main to the Alps is a subtle mix of ambience, cuisine and scenery. On the way, you can also have a peep into Noerdlingen’s Ries Crater, the place where America's astronauts trained for their moonwalk.

A visit to Germany cannot be complete without paying a visit to the majestic Cologne Cathedral. The 13th Century Gothic structure is supported by 56 pillars and has splendid stained-glass windows. There are quite a few paintings from Dutch and German masters and a visit to the place will give you a lot of solace. Other major attractions in the country include the Black Forest, the Frisian Islands, Heidelberg, Lake Constance (Bodensee) and the likes. There are world-class hotels, business centers, shopping malls, restaurants and nightclubs that add charm to your visit. No doubt, this is one of the hottest tourist destinations in the world.

When to go

If you are intending to visit Germany, time is not going to be a problem. It depends on the type of person you are and your likes and dislikes. Most of the visitors come to Germany between May and September when the roads are often clogged and you have to jostle for space. This period is the best for hiking, swimming, cycling and other outdoor activities. If you can come in the first week of October, you can see and enjoy one of the biggest festivals in the world. During April and May, the wildflowers brighten the meadows and valleys and fruit-bearing trees are in full bloom.

From November onwards, the outdoor activities are confined only to winter sports and those who love to focus on culture and city life are the main exponents of the season. The advantage with this period is that there are fewer visitors and short queues except in winter resorts. During this time, the day time is short and the sun may set as early as at 3.30 pm. The ski season is active in this time and for a lover of it, this is one of the best times.

Getting there and around

It is easy to enter Germany. Frankfurt is the main transport hub not only of Germany but also of the entire Europe. Almost all the flight operators in the world are operating from the country. British Airways and Go Airways offer inexpensive flights and the Deutsche BA offers cheaper domestic travel. But many of the people who come to the country prefer to travel in trains.

The rail network in the country is one of the best in the world and is exquisite and charming. One can have a panoramic vision of the country while being in a train. There are bus services from all the major towns and cities and alternatively you can also use cars and motorbikes. The roads in the country are fabulous and there is virtually no speed limit. It provides you greater fun, but you have to be very conscious while driving.
